New Legislation for Heavy Packages as of January 1, 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, new legislation in Germany will come into effect regarding the shipment of heavy packages. This law requires senders to include a weight indicator on packages. Specifically, this applies to packages weighing between 10 and 20 kilograms, as well as those over 20 kilograms.

To enhance safety and efficiency, we at VIM have decided to implement this measure not only for shipments to Germany but also for all domestic and international destinations. This ensures that both our employees and carriers are better prepared to handle heavy packages.

What does this mean for you?

  • To comply with this legislation, it is essential to upload your complete Item Master Data, including Net Weight and Gross Weight. This ensures that the shipping labels we generate will include the correct weight icon.
  • It is the responsibility of our customers to provide accurate and complete weight information for each item.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Failure to correctly input the weight or to use accurate weight categories may result in delivery delays or surcharges, especially for shipments to Germany. This also applies if you use custom labels that do not meet the new requirements.
